#1 Gales of November

The peak of storm season culminates with the ‘Gales of November’ — a natural phenomenon on Lake Superior that occurs when cold air from the north and warm air from the south converge. The winds create ferocious and frigid waves that are a thrilling sight. Afterwards head back to your resort bar to warm up with a cup of cocoa or a specialty cocktail.

#2 Wreck of Edmund Fitzgerald Celebration

Famously, the Edmund Fitzgerald was shipwrecked on Lake Superior Nov. 10, 1975. The annual Memorial Ceremony commemorates 44 years of remembrance and takes place 7 p.m. November 10 at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum. #3 Bentleyville Tour of Lights

The Bentleyville Tour of Lights is the largest free walk through lighting display in the United States and is open Nov. 23 – Dec. 28. This family friendly event features more than 5 million lights decorated throughout a 20-acre park located beside Lake Superior. #4 Thanksgiving Buffets with Amazing Views

Gather your loved ones for a trip to remember and plan your Thanksgiving feast at the North Shore. Hey, bookworms! Don’t write off this upcoming event. The North Shore Readers and Writers Festival Nov. 7-10 at Grand Marais Art Colony celebrates the literary arts. Readers, writers, and book professionals will gather to attend panel discussions, classes, author talks, and more!

#7 Lake Superior Storms Festival

A wave of excitement means organizers of the Lake Superior Storm Festival are getting ready for another year. The highly anticipated event takes place Nov. 8-10 and features an entertaining schedule that honors the Big Lake. Weekend activities include recreational contests, food and drinks, arts, and more! #8 Winterer's Gathering & Artic Film Fest

For film fans and those of fond of winter, we have the event for you. The Winterer’s Gathering & Artic Film Fest Nov. 22-24 celebrates winter travel and traditional life in the North. The weekend features winter-centric coursework, a winter tent camp, gear swap, dancing, film festival, speakers, and more cultural activities.
