Robert Ryan

CEO/Founder Odyssey Resorts & Development, Inc., Duluth, Minnesota

For more than 40 years Bob Ryan, President/Owner of Odyssey Resorts & Development, has been involved in the creation of many of the finest vacation home developments communities in Minnesota.

Ryan founded the company, which has grown to include numerous North Shore resort and vacation home properties, in 1997: Caribou Highlands Lodge, Lutsen; Grand Superior Lodge, Castle Danger; Crow Creek Homes near Gooseberry Falls State Park; Larsmont Cottages on Lake Superior, near Two Harbors; Trapper’s Landing Lodge on Leech Lake; and, most recently, Breezy Point Cabins on Lake Superior, near Two Harbors. Prior to founding Odyssey, he was instrumental in developing Izaty’s Lodge on Lake Mille Lacs and Sugar Lake Lodge near Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

Ryan made social and environmental stewardship and responsibility one of the founding principles of Odyssey Resorts.  Odyssey’s financial stewardship include many important northland entities as noted below.

“The North Shore is a very special place for me and my family, and I want the next generation to enjoy the same peace and beauty that we have been so fortunate to experience,” Bob said. “I am so proud of our employees for donating their time, talents and resources. Their contributions truly reflect our company value of stewardship.”

He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and lives in Duluth with his wife. He was a Trustee at the College of St. Scholastica for nine years and is now Trustee Emeritus.  Ryan also served on the Board of the Miller Dwan Health Systems Foundation and is currently serving on the board of One Roof Housing.

Social Responsibility

Social responsibility and donation are core tenants of the Odyssey Resorts philosophy, demonstrated through a welcoming presence, impeccable service and luxury lodging throughout our collection of inspired destinations. Odyssey Resorts is also dedicated to preserving the beauty of the North Shore setting that hosts us and giving back to the communities where we live and work.

This dedication is practiced through a variety of events and initiatives. For example, every spring at our Grand Marais property, East Bay Suites, we celebrate Earth Day by inviting guests and members of the community to assist in cleaning up the Lake Superior shoreline. In addition to community events like these, each year Odyssey donates 8 percent of our pre-tax profits to local charities.

In 2018 alone, Odyssey supported 20 different organizations, including North Shore Health Care Foundation, Superior Hiking Trail, North Shore Folk House, College of St. Scholastica and One Roof Housing, among others. In addition, Odyssey has contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars in lodging and dining certificates to charitable organizations throughout Minnesota.
